abbr. B2RP. This antimicrobial peptide (GIWDTIKSMGKVFAGKILQNL), which belongs to the family of Brevinins, has been isolated from skin secretions of the mink frog Lithobates septentrionalis. It shows broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity but its therapeutic potential is limited by moderate hemolytic activity. Conlon et al (2009) have described a variety of analogs with single amino acid exchanges that display higher antimicrobial activity and reduced hemolytic activity. The peptide also has DNA binding ability (Bandyopadhyay et al, 2014).
Abdel-Wahab et al (2010) have reported that the peptide stimulates insulin release in vitro and improves glucose tolerance in mice fed a high fat diet.
