[Beta-Defensin-41] This protein has been identified independently as DEFB16 [Beta-Defensin-16] and DEFB17 [Beta-Defensin-17] (Patil et al, 2005). DEFB41 is a Beta-Defensin that has been identified by Jalkanen et al (2005). It is expressed in the male urogenital tract epithelium and its expression is regulated by androgens. The protein may have a role in the antimicrobial protection of sperm and urogenital tract epithelia.
