[FAT-ATTAC mice, ATTAC mice]
also simply: ATTAC mouse. FAT-ATTAC is an acronym for 'fat apoptosis through targeted activation of caspase-8'. These transgenic mice develop identically to wild-type littermates (Pajvani et al, 2005; Trujillo et al, 2005). Adipocytes at any developmental stage can be induced to undergo cell death by apoptosis by administration of a FK1012 analog, which leads to the dimerization of a membrane-bound caspase-8 / FKBP fusion expressed specifically in adipocytes. Within 2 weeks after administration of the dimerizing agent FAT-ATTAC mice show markedly reduced levels of adipose tissue. Circulating adipokine
