[immediate-early response gene]. Human IEX1 is one of the immediate-early genes. The rat counterpart is PRG1 and the murine counterpart is GLY96. The human cDNA encodes a protein (156 amino acids) that contains a single transmembrane domain. Expression of the gene is induced by activators of protein kinase C, including ionizing radiation, 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate, okadaic acid, and TNF-alpha (Kondratyev et al, 1996). The gene has been cloned independently as DIF-2. The gene is involved in cell death by apoptosis and has been renamed
