[interleukin-32] The gene encoding IL32 has been identified by Kim et al (2005) in a search for genes the expression of which is upregulated in human cells engineered to express the IL18 receptor-beta chain.
IL32 does not share sequence homology with other known cytokine families. It is highly expressed in immune cells and gives rise to at least 9 different splice variants. IL32-alpha is the shortest isoform with a deletion of 57 amino acid residues due to the splicing of exons 7 and 8. Three other splice isoforms are IL32-beta, IL32-gamma, IL32-delta (which lacks exon 2) (Kim et al, 2005; Goda et al, 2006).
