[lysosomal glycoprotein 96 kDa] The cDNA encoding this rat protein has been cloned by Noguchi et al (1989). Sequence analysis shows that it is the rat counterpart of the lysosomal protein LAMP-2 [lysosome-associated membrane glycoprotein-2], which, in the nomenclature of CD antigens has received the designation CD107b.
Cuervo AM and Dice (1996) have identified the protein as a receptor for the selective uptake and degradation by lysosomes during a process related to autophagy and known as Chaperone-mediated autophagy.
