This factor of 35-55 kDa is induced by intravenous injection of TNBSA (trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid) in mice and prevents delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions (picryl chloride contact sensitivity test). The factor is produced by pooled spleen and lymph node cells in vitro. The inhibitory activity is not present in the conditioned medium obtained from lymphoid cells of sham-treated mice.
TNBSA-F induces a dose-dependent unresponsiveness of HT-2 cells to IL2. The inhibitory effect of TNBSA-F is not due to the presence of TGF-beta, soluble immune-response suppressor (see: SIRS), IFN-gamma, or JE.
