[yellowfin tuna GAPDH-related antimicrobial peptide] YFGAP is an antimicrobial peptide (VKVGINGFGRIGRLVTRAAFHGKKVEVVAIND) purified from an acidified skin extract of the yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares (Seo et al, 2012). The peptide shows high homology with the N-terminus of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and may be a bioactive fragment thereof (for another antimicrobial peptide derived from GAPDH see also: AMGAP).
YFGAP shows potent antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, and Streptococcus iniae, and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Aeromonas hydrophila, Escherichia coli
