This fragment of bovine casein-alpha (RYLGYL) (Loukas et al, 1983) has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation of human prostate cell lines, also by a mechanism partly involving opioid receptors (Kampa et al, 1997). Rabgaoui et al (1994) have reported that the peptide enhances the production of oxygen-free radicals and 5-HETE [5-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid] but has no effect on the production of leukotriene B4 and its isomers in human neutrophils.
