dactylidin |

Alpha-inhibin-92(66-92) |

This protein of 60 kDa has been isolated from purple fluid of the Aplysia dactylomela (Melo et al, 2000). Dactylomelin-P has antibacterial (bacteriostatic but not bactericidal) and hemagglutinating activities. The hemagglutinating activity is directed preferentially against rabbit erythrocytes and can be abolished by fetuin. Although this protein has antimicrobial activities, it is believed that its main function is in defending sea hares against predators (Johnson et al, 2006).
For other proteins/peptides with functions in innate immunity and/or antimicrobial activities see also: Innate immunity and defense peptides Dictionary.
