This cell type in the fundic glands of the canine stomach is characterized by a brush of rigid apical microvilli with long rootlets (Hammong and LaDeur, 1968; Wattel and Geuze, 1978) and is thought to be an example of what is generally being referred to as brush cells or tuft cells by morphological criteria (for overview see also: Sbarbati and Osculati, 2005)
