[pancreatic acinar cell]
These cells, called also acinar pancreatic cells, derive their name from the fact that they are organized in acini (singular acinus), i.e., clusters. The endocrine cells of the pancreas are organized in clusters known as islets of Langerhans, which are interspersed among the acini (see also: Langerhans cells). Centroacinar cells are pale-staining cells present within the pancreatic acini. These cells are thought to influence the degranulation of pancreatic acinar cells by functioning as signal transducers.
