This protein was isolated originally from soluble extracts of cow brain (Moore and Perez, 1967). Similar proteins are highly conserved and are found in all eukaryotes, including plants, but are absent in prokaryotes (Rosenquist et al, 2000). The human counterpart comprises approximately 1 % of the total amount of soluble brain protein (Boston et al, 1982). At least seven 14-3-3 isoforms have been identified (Fu et al, 2000). To a large part, their individual contributions towards various processes still remains to be elucidated.
