[a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain 7; ADAM metallopeptidase domain 7] This protein is a member of the ADAM protein family. Lin et al (2001) have cloned the human gene, which encodes GP-83 [Sperm maturation-related glycoprotein GP-83] a glycoprotein expressed and secreted specifically by epididymal epithelial cells but not expressed in testis or other major tissues. The protein has been identified independently as EAPI [epididymal apical protein I].
Cornwall and Hsia (1997) have reported that ADAM7 is expressed in the mouse anterior pituitary and epididymis but not in other tissues. ADAM7 gene expression
