[a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motif-8; ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 8] This protein is a member of the ADAM protein family (see: ADAMTS protein family). It has been identified originally as a cDNA found in heart and lung tissues. Expression is highest in adult and fetal lung. Vázquez et al (1999) refer to the protein as METH-2 (an acronym reflecting the novel combination of metalloprotease domains and thrombospondin domains).
