[anti-dorsalizing morphogenetic protein-2] This Xenopus laevis protein has been described by Kumano et al (2006). ADMP-2 is a member of the TGF-beta family. ADMP-2 is expressed in a broad band of mesendoderm cells that appear to include the progenitors of the endoderm and the ventral mesoderm. Blocking ADMP-2 expression results in near-complete disruption of primitive blood and heart development. The development of other mesoderm derivatives, including pronephros, muscle, and lateral plate is not disrupted. The development of the primitive blood in ADMP-2 knock-down embryos cannot be rescued by bone morphogenetic proteins. ADMP-2 activity may be necessary to respond to BMP
