This antibacterial peptide (GCPQTPRCTNYAEKGQCPPN) has been isolated from the skin mucus of the Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica (Jiang et al, 2011). AJN-10 is active against Aeromonas hydrophila, one of the main pathogenic bacteria of Japanese eel and many other fish. The peptide shows little sequence relationship with other antibacterial peptides. The peptide is thought to play a role in innate immunity.
