The genes coding for human and mouse AMACO (an acronym from von Willebrand Factor A-like domains related to those in MAtrilins and COllagens) have been cloned by Sengle et al (2003). AMACO is an extracellular matrix protein containing domains similar to those in von Willebrand factor and an EGF-like domain.
The protein has been identified independently as CCSP-2 [colon cancer secreted protein-2]. The approved gene symbol is VWA2 [von Willebrand factor A containing 2].
