[Antimicrobial Peptide with 57 amino acid residues; Antimicrobial peptide-57] This factor has been identified as an antimicrobial peptide by Yang et al (2015). Sequence analysis shows that AP-57 is identical with a cytokine termed CSBF [colon-derived SUSD2 binding factor], encoded by C10orf99 [chromosome 10 open reading frame 99].
AP-57 shows broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, actinomycetes, and fungi (Aspergillus niger) as well as mycoplasma and lentivirus. AP-57 shows the highest expression in the mucosa of stomach and colon but is expressed also in the epithelium
