This human HTLV-I-infected T-helper cell line has been used instead of murine CTLL-2 cells in bioassays detecting IL2. The cells express the IL2 receptor and depend entirely on IL2 for their growth (see also: Factor-dependent cell lines). The cells are extremely sensitive to the cytopathic effect of certain HIV strains and have been used extensively in bioassays screening for substances inhibiting HIV (Richman et al, 2001).
