Acaloleptins constitute a family of structurally related antibacterial peptides (8 kDa) (Acaloleptin A1, Acaloleptin A2, Acaloleptin A3, Acaloleptin A4) isolated from the hemolymph of immunized larvae of the Udo longicorn beetle, Acalolepta luxuriosa. Acaloleptin A1 consists of 71 amino acids and shares significant sequence similarity with coleoptericins and holotricin-2. The 29 C-terminal residues have 40 % identity with the 30 C-terminal residues of hymenoptaecin found in honeybees.
These peptides show potent antibacterial activity against some Gram-negative bacteria. The expression of these peptides
