Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans leukotoxin

This toxin of 114 kDa is produced by the periodontopathogen Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. The gene (designation lktA) has been cloned (Kraig et al (1990); Lally et al (1989); Kolodrubetz et al, 1989) and is linked to three other genes, lktB, lktC, and lktD, the gene products of which are thought to be required for activation and localization of the leukotoxin (Spitznagel et al, 1991). The encoded protein is a member of the RTX (repeats in toxin) family of toxins, which are important in the pathogenesis of many Gram-negative bacteria. Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans leukotoxin is homologous to the leukotoxin from Pasteurella haemolytica and to the Alpha-Hemolysin species from Escherichia coli and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. Unlike the homologous ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
