Adenovirus E3 19 kDa protein

This glycoprotein of 19 kDa is encoded by the nonessential E3 early multi-gene transcription unit in the genomes of various serotypes of adenoviruses (Burgert et al, 1987). The protein is involved in the interaction of the virus with the host immune system. The protein is referred to also as E19 and must not be confused with another viral protein, Adenovirus E1B 19 kDa protein.

Adenovirus E3 19 kDa protein is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum. It has been shown to bind strongly to the heavy chain of class 1 major histocompatibility complex and to block the transport of class 1 antigens to the cell surface. This effectively prevents lysis of adenovirus-infected cells by cytotoxic CD8(+) T-lymphocytes, because adenovirus peptide ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
