abbr. and approved gene symbol: AFM; abbr. sometimes AFAM. Afamin, named by Lichenstein et al (1994) who also cloned the cDNA, is a secreted protein isolated from human serum. The protein has been identified as a new member of the albumin family. In contrast to other family members, Afamin is highly glycosylated and has a molecular weight of 87 kDa.
