This amidated peptide [pQGRLGTQWAVGHLMamide] is a naturally occurring analog of bombesin, which has been isolated from skin secretions of the midwife toad Alytes maurus (Anastasi, 1971; Anastasi et al, 1972). The cDNA has been cloned by König et al (2012).
Heikkila et al (1987) have reported that Alytesin, like Tyr3-Bombesin, causes calcium mobilization in a subset of human small cell lung cancer cell lines.
Intracerebroventricular and peripheral injections of alytesin in neonatal chicks has been shown to cause short-term anorexigenic effects (Cline et al, 2008).
