[D-Arg(6),D-Trp(7,9)-N(me)Phe(8)]-substance P(6-11)] This is a derivative of substance P. It inhibits mitogenesis stimulated by a broad spectrum of neuropeptides neuropeptides and has demonstrated anticancer peptide activity in vitro and in vivo with IC(50) concentrations of 10-20 microM in small cell lung cancer and other cell lines. The compound is entering Phase II clinical investigation for the treatment of small cell lung cancer. Antagonist G activates JNK (c-Jun N-terminal kinase) and induces cell death by apoptosis in small cell lung cancer cells via an oxidant-dependent mechanism (MacKinnon et al, 1999). Antagonist G itself induces inflammation
