[B2 astrocyte]
The term B2 astrocytes has been used to refer to one of five identifiable cells types in the subventricular zone of the brain (B1 astrocytes, C cells, A cells, E cells) (Doetsch et al, 1997; Doetsch and Alvarez-Buylla, 1996). In contrast to B1 astrocytes, with which they share expression of some markers, B2 astrocytes are not neurogenic and are thought to serve as unique sensors and regulators of the neurogenic niche and to support neuroblast migration (Doetsch, 2003) (for overview see also: Mamber et al, 2013).
