[B-cell novel protein 1]; approved gene symbol: FAM129C [Family with sequence similarity 129 member C]. In some databanks the term Niban-like protein 2 has been used as a recommended name. This protein has been identified by Boyd et al (2003). It shows highest expression in lymph node and spleen, with little to no expression in other tissues, including other hemopoietic tissues. Expression is high in B-cell malignancies.
Han M et al (2008) have reported downregulated expression in colorectal cancer. Expression of BCNP1 is highly altered in some types of carcinomas; the protein is phosphorylated and may play a role in the pathogenesis of these cancer and a role in cell densitydependent cell proliferation
