[B-cell proliferation factor] This term refers to biochemically uncharacterized factors active on B-cells initially found in the conditioned medium of human T-cell hybridomas.
BCPF acts on B-cells to induce proliferation without differentiation and is distinct from conventional B-cell growth factors (see also: BCGF). BCPF acts like an antigen in vivo or like anti-mu in vitro, pre-activating B-cells and rendering them responsive to B-cell growth factors. BCPF induces cells to proliferate without pre-activation (see also: cell activation).
