[Blood dendritic cell antigen 2] The gene encoding this protein and several splice variants have been identified by Dzionek et al (2001) in an immunoscreen of COS cells expressing cDNAs from plasmacytoid dendritic cells. The sequence is identical with that of DLEC.
The gene appears to be expressed specifically in plasmacytoid dendritic cells. Ligation of BDCA-2 potently suppresses induction of IFN-alpha and IFN-beta in plasmacytoid dendritic cells (Dzionek et al, 2001).
Wu et al (2008) have reported that BDCA2 expression on plasmacytoid dendritic cells decreases along maturation of these cells. TLR7 or TLR9
