(approved gene symbol) [brain expressed X-linked 2] The human gene has been cloned by Yang et al (2002) who originally named it BEX1. Owing to sequence homologies the gene was renamed subsequencely as BEX2 by Alvarez et al (2005). Mukai et al (2003) have referred to the protein as NADE5 [p75NTR-associated cell death executor 5] (see also: NADE).
Ito K et al (2014) have reported that mice lacking expression of BEX2 are viable and fertile and show no obvious phenotypic abnormalities, suggesting a redundant role in vivo. They have observed expression of BEX2 in endocrine and stem cells / progenitor cells
