[BH3 interacting domain death agonist] BID encodes an agonist of cell death by apoptosis (Esposti et al, 2002). The protein is identical with Cif. The BID gene has been mapped to human chromosome 22 near locus D22S57 in the CES (Cat eye syndrome) region (Footz et al, 1998).
Renshaw et al (2004) have described three splice variants of BID. The expression of these variants is regulated differentially during the maturation of granulocytes. BID-S contains the N-terminal regulatory domains of BID without the BH3 domain and abrogates the pro-apoptotic effects of truncated BID and inhibits apoptosis mediated by
