[bovine myeloid antimicrobial peptide-34] BMAP-34 (GLFRRLRDSIRRGQQKILEKARRIGERIKDIFRG) has been identified by Gennaro et al (1998). BMAP-34 is stored as a proform in the cytoplasmic granules of bovine neutrophils. The peptide belongs to the family of cathelicidins and acts as a defense peptide peptide that shows a broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against both Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive organisms, and is not active against eukaryotic cells.
