BON

A permanent cell line derived from a metastatic human carcinoid tumor of the pancreas (Evers et al, 1991; Parekh et al, 1994). The cells produce tumors in nude mice. BON cells grow in monolayer culture and form colonies in soft agar (see also: Colony formation assay).

The cells express functional receptors for acetylcholine, 5-HT, isoproterenol, gastrin, and somatostatin. The cells overexpress N-ras and contain a homozygous point mutation of the N-ras gene.
