BPLF1

[EBV BPLF1; Epstein-Barr virus BPLF1 protein] This Epstein-Barr virus gene has been identified as a late lytic cycle gene by Schmaus et al (2004). The encoded protein (3149 amino acids) shows sequence homology with HSV-1 VP16 and Varicella zoster virus ORF22.

The protein has been shown to possess deubiquitinating activity (Schlieker et al, 2005) and has been shown to reduce the activity of EBV ribonucleotide reductase (Whitehurst et al, 2009). The protein promotes viral DNA replication by regulating the activity of cullin-RING ligases (Gastaldello et al, 2009, 1012). Whitehurst et al (2012) have reported that the viral protein deubiquitinates PCNA, which is monoubiquitinated in response to DNA damage and fork stalling and then initiates recruitment of specialized polymerases (polymerase eta) in the DNA ... ... ... ... ...
