[Biological Response Modifier Program unit] An activity standard of Interleukins and other growth factors with immunomodulatory activities created by the working party on immunomodulators within the biological response modifier program initiated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (Mire-Sluis et al, 1998; Rossio et al, 1986).
It is frequently very difficult to compare the biological activities of immunomodulatory factors because producers and also the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and WHO (World Health Organization) use their own reference standards (see also: cytokine assays, bioassays).
