A human mammary epithelial cell line established from an estrogen-independent (see also: Factor-dependent cell lines) estrogen receptor-negative adenocarcinoma of the breast. The cells respond to bFGF and express high-affinity bFGF receptors. The cells also express receptors for M-CSF, and this factor increases the invasive growth of the cell in an in vitro invasion model. BT-20 cells express a high number of EGF receptors. BT-20 cells secrete an IGF binding protein into the conditioned medium (IGFBP2; see: IGFBP).
