[B and T-lymphocyte attenuator; B and T-lymphocyte associated protein] Another abbrev. is BTLA1 [B and T-lymphocyte attenuator 1]. This protein is known also as B and T-lymphocyte-associated protein. In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD272.
The gene encoding this glycosylated transmembrane protein has been cloned by Watanabe et al (2003) from human cDNA libraries (T-cells) and mouse splenocytes. They also described the existence of a splice variant.
