Basal cell adhesion molecule

abbr. BCAM (a term with multiple meanings). BCAM is a cell surface antigen of epithelial cancer (Campbell et al, 1994). It differs only by the lack of the last 40 amino acids of the cytoplasmic tail from the 85 kDa form of Lutheran blood group antigen (Campbell et al, 1994; Parsons et al, 1995). In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD239.

BCAM is a 90 kDa cell surface glycoprotein that functions as a receptor for laminin (Udani et al, 1998).
