[Blanes cell]
This cell types, described originally by Blanes (1898) is a type of large, ovoid interneuron within the granule cell layer of the olfactory bulb (Schneider and Macrides, 1978; Pressler and Strowbridge, 2006). Blanes cells are GABAergic persistent spiking interneurons that mediate persistent feedforward inhibition onto granule cells in the olfactory bulb (Pressler and Strowbridge (2006).
