also: Neural crest boundary cap cells. Boundary cap cells (abbr. BC cells) are located at the interface between the central and peripheral nervous system at the exit/entry points of ventral motor/dorsal sensory axons. These cells form clusters at the surface of the neural tube. They are derived from neural crest cells and give rise to all Schwann cells in the nerve roots and to a subset of nociceptive neurons and satellite cells in the dorsal root ganglia (Maro et al, 2004).
