Buccalin

This neuropeptide, termed also Buccalin A (GMDSLAFSGGLamide), has been isolated from the marine mollusk Aplysia californica. It is expressed by two small cardioactive peptide-containing cholinergic motor neurons (the buccal motor neurons) and depresses accessory radula closer muscle contractions evoked by stimulation of this neuron (Cropper et al, 1988, 1990). Buccalin-like immunoreactivity is observed also in a variety of central and peripheral circuits in Aplysia, and it has been suggested that members of the buccalin peptide family may act as neuromodulators or neurotransmitters (Miller et al, 1992). Exogenously applied buccalin A has modulatory effects on mechanosensory neurons in the cerebral and pleural ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
