C/EBP-beta
[CCAAT enhancer binding protein-beta] This transcription factor belongs to a class of DNA binding proteins named bZIP proteins (Vinson et al, 1989). These DNA binding proteins are characterized by a leucine zipper motif that mediates dimerization and a basic DNA binding domain. C/EBP-beta is an isoform of the originally described transcription factor C/EBP (Johnson et al, 1987), now called C/EBP-alpha (Cao et al, 1991).
C/EBP-beta is the new term for various factors described as LAP [liver activator protein] (Descombes et al, 1990), IL6DBP (IL6-dependent DNA binding protein) (Poli et al, 1990),
