This murine protein has been identified originally as a centrosome-associated protein, the expression of which varies during cell cycle progression (Rothbarth et al, 1993). The protein is the murine homolog of EPCR [endothelial protein C receptor], which binds activated protein C (Fukudome and Esmon; 1995; Liang et al, 1999). Post-translational modification, namely deletion of the signal sequence, is decisive for the centrosomal location of the resulting centrosomal protein, whereas the unprocessed protein is incorporated into cell membranes (Rothbarth et al, 1999).
In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD201.
