[Colon Carcinoma Related Gene; Colon and small intestine-specific cysteine-rich protein] This gene has been found to be expressed in the majority of colon tumors. Expression is detected also in early adenomas. In normal tissues gene expression is detected only in the small intestine. The gene is not expressed in carcinomas of the breast, lung, ovary, pancreas and prostate.
The open reading frame for CCRG encodes a cysteine-rich motif and a putative signal sequence. The conditioned medium of COS cells engineered to express CCRG stimulates proliferation of colon cancer cells (De Young et al, 2002). Sequence analysis shows that CCRG is the same as RELM-beta [
