This protein of 140 kDa is a member of the cadherin family of proteins (Breviario et al, 1995; Nollet et al, 2000).
The antigen is expressed on endothelial cells (Suzuki et al, 1991; Lampugnani et al, 1992). Smith et al (1998) have reported that expression of CD144 may not be restricted to endothelial cells. It is expressed also in perineurial cells of peripheral nerves.
