CD34(+) stromal fibroblastic/fibrocytic cells

abbr. CD34(+) SFCs. This collective term (Díaz-Flores, 2014) refers to a specific type of connective tissue cell, a subset of fibroblasts located in both perivascular and stromal positions in the connective tissue of multiple anatomical sites. These cells are characterized by the expression of CD34.

These cells display an oval nucleus and slender, elongated bipolar or multipolar processes and, in addition to having the general functions of fibroblasts, behave as native mesenchymal stem cell progenitor cells (after losing CD34 expression).
