CD55 is known also as complement decay-accelerating factor or decay-accelerating factor (abbr. DAF). It is identical with the Cromer blood group antigen (Wang et al, 1998).
Human DAF is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored glycoprotein of 70 kDa expressed on the plasma membrane of all cell types that come into contact with plasma complement proteins. The protein is also a constitutent of the extracellular matrix. The human gene has been cloned by Medof et al (1987). The protein shares some amino acid repeat motifs
