The antigen is expressed on B-cells and plasma cells (Hashimoto et al, 1994). It is part of the B-cell antigen receptor.
cDNAs for CD79b have been cloned by Wood et al (1993) and Hashimoto et al (1993). Hashimoto et al (1994) have determined the complete genomic sequence. The cytoplasmic domain contains a single ITAM motif (Dobbs et al, 2007). CD79b forms a disulfide-linked heterodimeric complex with CD79a
