[Cartilage-derived inhibitor] This factor is isolated from cartilage (Moses and Langer, 1991). CDI is found also in the conditioned medium of chondrocytes. CDI is an endogenous inhibitor of metalloproteinases (collagenases). CDI can inhibit the activity of MMP-1, MMP-2, and MMP-9 and is a potent inhibitor of neovascularization (Moses, 1993). CDI inhibits the proliferation of endothelial cells. CDI also inhibits angiogenesis in vivo.
